Packing Tips

  1. Glass Cups or plates: Take the first glass, line with a couple of sheets of cut-up paper. Place second glass inside the first one, line with two more sheets of paper. Likewise nest all the cups one inside the another wrapping paper in diagonal manner. Grasp the corner of two sheets of wrapping paper. Same in case of plates.
  2. Goblets & stemware: Pack them singly, do not nest them.
  3. Small Kitchen Appliances: Pack appliances like blender, toaster, can opener, etc, together in one or two boxes and seal them.
  4. Pots & Pans: Approximately 2 to 5 pots or pans can be nested one inside another wrap packing paper for each pan. Use two or three protective pieces of lining paper and insert the middle pan upside down.
  5.  Boxed foods, cereals, spices, canister sets: Pack them together in boxes after making sure the boxes and cans are tightly closed and won’t leak. Seal the boxes if opened and cans if you doubt it may leak. Wrap the canister with packing paper individually and seal with tape.
  6. Tall Table Lamps: Get carton large enough to pack tall lamp. Wrap the lamp and lamp shades with packing paper also place some more papers at the top and bottom edges of the carton for more protection then seal. Do not pack anything else with lamps and do not wrap them with newspaper since the print ink may stick to the lamp shade.
  7. Mirrors & Portraits: Wrap the small portraits or mirrors in packing paper and stood up them in normal cartons with other goods. Pack the large portraits as face down on several packing papers inside the special cartons for the portraits then seal with tape.
  8. Clothing: Move the clothes on hangers to closet carton leave the clothes in dresses as it is and make sure the drawers are locked and not heavy. Never move clothes to garment bags.
  9. Washing machines: Secure spring-mounted motors. Brace the tub to prevent damage. Wedge special tub inserts in the space between the tub and sidewalls. Disconnect hoses and put them in tightly sealed sandwich bags inside the machine's tub.
  10. Refrigerators & freezers: Defrost, dry and load refrigerator in upright position, using its inside space for bulky, lightweight goods such as large stuffed toys or pillows. Before laying refrigerator down for a move, check with its manufacturer. Most brands can be moved on their sides. Do not connect the appliance in your new home until the unit has stood upright for at least 24 hours.
  11. Home electronics: Wrap small equipments in plenty of foam padding, pack them in a box and load it on top of a soft item.
  12. Drawers, Desks, etc: Pack drawers full and make sure the breakable item are well padded. To prevent the drawers from opening place them against the wall of the truck or against a flat surface like mattresses.
  13. Tables & cot: remove the legs and load the flat surfaces on edge. Otherwise, load them upside down on blankets or padding as the legs up. Other boxes can be places in the space between the legs.
  14. Aerosol containers: Do not pack them inside flammable containers.
  15. Toys: No need to wrap them in packing paper, place them in large cartons and seal them up.
  16. Books & Records: place them flat in small boxes and seal.

Other general tips:

  1. Do not pack fragile items together with hard items.
  2. Pack small items in the left out spaces in the cartons by placing several packing papers.
  3. Make a note on the packed cartons like “FRAGILE”, “BOOKS”, “KITCHEN EQUIPMENTS” using a marker.
  4. Fill the empty spaces in the cartons with paper or use for lighter items.
